LookLess Privacy Policy

LookLess does not collect or upload your usage data. It has no accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking. The App stores tasks, focus history, unfinished-session drafts, and preferences only on your device and does not actively sync or upload them; Apple device backups or migration that you enable may include this data. Bedtime-seal drafts and verification results are also stored only on this device and do not count toward total focus time.

1. Information We Process

The task names and colors you create, focus start and end times, planned and actual durations, interruption counts, and completion status are stored in the App sandbox on this device. Focus history files use iOS Data Protection. If protected data is temporarily unavailable, the App will not overwrite existing history with empty data unless you explicitly confirm “Clear All History.” When upgrading from an older version, legacy history is removed from its former storage only after the protected file has been written and verified successfully.

During a focus flow, the App also stores an unfinished-session draft on this device so the current flow can be restored. The draft is cleared after the completed record is saved reliably or you abandon the flow. If the completed record cannot be written temporarily, the draft remains until the record is saved or you clear all history.

Your default duration, haptic, reminder, strict mode, and face-down confirmation preferences, as well as whether you have viewed onboarding, are also stored only on your device.

Bedtime seals are stored separately on this device, including seal and wake times, the verification result, face-down ratio, and possible pickup count. They do not count toward daytime focus minutes and are not uploaded.

2. Motion and Orientation Data

During the focus flow, the App reads gravity, acceleration, and rotation information in real time to determine whether the phone is face down, remains stable, or has left the face-down position. This allows it to start or pause the timer and stop the completion alert.

These real-time motion samples are processed immediately in memory. They are not saved to focus history, uploaded, or provided to the developer or third parties. Sensor monitoring stops when the focus flow ends.

After a successful seal, the App asks the system to record accelerometer history and later reads that interval on this device at settle time to verify the screen stayed face down. Raw acceleration samples are not written into the bedtime record and are not uploaded.

3. Notifications and Haptics

The App requests notification permission when you turn on “Daily Reminder,” or when you start a bedtime seal that needs a wake reminder. iOS schedules the reminder locally on your device; the App does not use a remote push notification server.

Haptics for interactions such as starting, progressing through, interrupting, and completing a focus session are generated directly by Apple system frameworks on your device and do not send data to the developer. You can turn off haptics or the daily reminder in the App at any time.

When you start a bedtime seal and need a wake reminder, the App requests notification permission and schedules one local notification. Denying notifications does not block sealing, but you will need to open the App yourself to settle.

5. Sharing You Initiate

When you choose “Share This Focus,” the App gives the iOS share sheet a focus-duration summary, the subject “LookLess,” and fixed copy. The sharing action you choose—such as copying—or the app or service you select may use that content according to its capabilities. Task names, start or end times, and interruption counts are not included automatically. LookLess never shares on its own and does not receive the recipient or result of your share. The recipient you choose handles the content under its own privacy policy.

6. Retention and Deletion

Focus history remains on your device until you delete an individual entry in its detail view, choose “Clear All History” in Settings, or uninstall the App.

Task names and colors remain until you delete the corresponding task in the task editor or uninstall the App. “Clear All History” deletes focus history only; it does not delete tasks. An unfinished-session draft is used only to restore the current flow and is cleared after the completed record is saved reliably or you abandon the flow; if saving fails, it is retained temporarily for recovery.

When you choose to use a recovered task list, the App first keeps a copy of the original unreadable task data on this device. It remains until you delete “Task Recovery Backups” in Settings or uninstall the App.

Bedtime seal records remain on this device until you delete an individual entry, choose “Clear All History” in Settings, or uninstall the App. “Clear All History” deletes both focus history and bedtime seals; it does not delete tasks.

Preferences and onboarding status remain until you change them or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes data from the App sandbox on the current device. Deleting data in the App or uninstalling it does not retroactively erase existing iCloud or computer backups, and restoring an older backup may restore older data. You must manage those backups separately in your Apple Account or computer backup settings. Because the data is not uploaded to a developer server, the developer cannot remotely view, restore, or delete this history for you.

7. Sensor and Notification Permissions

Face-down detection uses real-time accelerometer and gyroscope data. The App monitors it only during the focus flow and stops when that flow ends, and it accesses motion data under iOS permission and privacy controls. If iOS requires authorization or motion data is unavailable, face-down focus cannot start. Notification permission is requested when you turn on “Daily Reminder,” or when you start a bedtime seal that needs a wake reminder; you can disable reminders in the App or in iOS Settings. Denying notification permission does not affect focus timing.

Bedtime seals also use the system’s historical accelerometer records for on-device verification. After sealing, the App does not keep listening to orientation overnight. Notification permission is requested when a bedtime seal needs a wake reminder.

8. Policy Updates and Contact

If networking, analytics, accounts, or third-party services are added in the future, we will first update this policy and the App Store privacy label and obtain your consent where applicable.

The App’s core features currently have no developer-designated third party that can access focus history or usage data. Web-hosting or email-delivery providers used for App Support process only support information you submit voluntarily and necessary logs. The App does not automatically give them focus history unless you include it in a support request. The developer will select and require these providers to offer protection no less stringent than this policy and Apple’s requirements.

For privacy questions, contact the developer using “App Support” on this App’s App Store product page. If you contact us, the developer may receive the contact details and message you provide and basic support-site access logs, solely to respond to your request, secure the service, and comply with legal obligations. Support correspondence is retained for no more than 12 months after a request is resolved, and basic access logs for no more than 90 days, after which they are deleted or anonymized. Information may be retained as necessary for security, disputes, or legal obligations. You may use the same channel to request access to or early deletion of support correspondence held by the developer, except where retention is required by law.
